Pixel art style background and boss character assets that I developed for our team in the Cambridge Game Jam this year. Our project was selected as the winner by popular vote. The project spanned a period of 48 hours, which forced us to learn new skills and organize efficiently. It was fun working on this.
The boss model is done with Aseprite. It is supposed to be a possessed digger robot of some kind. The background involves a gigantic drill which has disturbed the peace of our main character. As the player progresses upward, they come to see different sections of the drill, which I think is a pretty neat look. I kept the contrast very low in order to not draw attention from the foreground elements that much. I also used a generous amount of dithering to further remove contrasts.
